Writer’s Workshop: Can You Hear it too?
Ice Cold Apple Juice
As I sip on the refreshing ice -cold apple juice I momentarily close my eyes to refocus myself. I try to shut out everything and meditate.
I have been having the kids around me 24/7 as they are currently on their year end vacations.
My ears are constantly aching from hearing many different voices streaming through them. There is no “off” switch or way to adjust the volume on some of the voices.
” Mummy he took my toy!!”- Tiger girl complaining.
” Give it to me!!”- Monkey boy ordering.
” I can’t find it.. Mummy!!!”- Doggie boy reporting.
” Okay give me 5 minutes”- Tiger girl stalling for time.
” He’s annoying me!”- Tiger girl complaining.
” It’s the holidays why can’t I just play the whole day? “- Doggie boy asking.
” Would you like an apple?” – Me talking to Tiger girl
” Don’t disturb your sister!” – Me talking to Monkey boy
” Sit up straight. Don’t slouch!”- Me talking to Doggie boy
” Stop pointing your Nerf gun at your sister. She doesn’t like it.” – Me telling Monkey boy
” Did you put the clothes to wash? ” – My inner voice talking
” What shall I cook for dinner?” – Inner voice talking again.
There are too many different voices swirling around my head vying for attention at the same time. It really makes my heart hurt at times.
It takes a lot of patience and diligence to attend to every single voice that comes into my earshot.
Experience has taught me how to prioritize which voice to attend to first and which one to mute temporarily.
What have you been hearing lately?

I’m with you Sis, totally feeling what your feeling right now with my two kids around of the time, It’s been a fun, chaotic and lots of complaining everyday in my house. 🙂 Surely fun though!

It’s quiet here, almost too quiet!

Your house sounds much like mine! With an 8, 6, and 2yr old twins, silence is almost never found! Keep it up! Loved your post!

The sounds around me are pretty silent right now. Just the hum of computers and the snoring of a cat.

I hear better with an ice cold drink like yours.

Hi Dominique ~~ Strange you should ask, today is worse than most. I have a constant ‘ring’ which is more like 100 crickets singing down by the pond.
Enjoy your kids while you can, they won’t be little for long. 🙂

I’m fortunate enough to hear birds making noise and cows munching on grass. It doesn’t get much better. And, as it has been mentioned before, one day you will miss the noise. Well, maybe not miss it, but notice when it’s gone.

Hi 5! The worst sound that I don’t want to hear on my side is the punching sound from my senior on my junior. Sigh…. boys fight. That’s why I dislike school holiday in a way.

24/7 of kid time is absolutely exhausting. I’m just glad mine are old enough to sleep through the night because doing it all on lack of sleep makes everything harder!

Oh.
Girl.
Breathe.
That cacophony of voices all the time can be wearing!
I’m glad you got a little juice pause.
Thanks for linking to the letter C.
This was really cute.
