Writer’s Workshop: Undergrad Years

Being a college student was something which I enjoyed back then in the 90s. It was a time filled with fun and excitement.

18 years ago while studying in Melbourne, Australia life was much simpler. There was less things to worry and stress about. I only needed to concentrate on my studies and was free to participate in any activities which I fancy. It was the first time that I didn’t have to worry about curfews and staying out late. It was okay to party till late if I wished to. I was only accountable to myself.

I enjoyed being able to make friends with people from different races and cultures.  Attending classes in lecture halls and not having to wear a uniform like when I was studying in Singapore was a really different experience for me.  It was really nice to be able to wear whatever I fancied. Actual lesson time wasn’t as long with only 3 hours slotted for lectures/tutorials per subject and I could study/revise at my own pace.

During my undergrad years what I loved most was the time spent off campus together with my friends. We would gather in each others house to have our meals together, play cards or watch DVDs on the weekend. Going for movies, dating and visiting different places around Australia during our term break. Those are times I cherish.

How was your undergrad years like?

Writer’s Workshop: The kids learnt these

My 3 kids

My 3 kids

This week has been quite a learning week for the kids. The start of October marks the countdown to the end of terms and the dreaded year end examinations. This month will be a rather stressful month for the boys as they have to revise all that has been taught since the start of the year.

Even though revision mode is on let me share with you what the kids have learned this week.

Monkey boy frying chicken

Monkey boy frying chicken

Monkey boy has learned to cook a few new dishes. Besides knowing how to fry egg with ham he now knows how to cook breaded chicken and operate the Air Fryer too.  Now he can heat up frozen chips for his afternoon snack and cook his own 3 course dinner- Rice, Vegetables and Chicken.Next up will be teaching him how to make soups.

Doggie boy

Doggie boy has learned to operate the oven and  cook baked potatoes for himself.  He has also learned how to operate the air fryer and wash the dishes properly after meals. Cracking an egg and beating it is a lot of fun. However frying it can be quite daunting for him and he has yet to step up to this task.

Tiger girl learned how to use the butter knife properly. She can now spread the jam over the whole piece of toast without having it been spread all over the plate and the table. She is also able to use the knife to cut if needed. Next up will be training her how to use the chopstick properly.

What have your kids been learning to do?
