IPAD App Review

Colorforms Revolution App Review and Giveaway

My little girl has been really crazy about the Colorforms Revolution App since we downloaded the free version a few months back.  Imagine her delight when we told her that we were given the opportunity to review the full version of the App.

Description

The revolution is finally here with COLORFORMS® REVOLUTION™ HD, the new iPad app that allows your entire family to experience Colorforms® like never before! Combine shapes, colors, patterns and backgrounds in endless combinations to create an infinite number of exciting designs. Or choose a Play Set with themed stickers and backgrounds, put them in a scene and a story is born. Play a Puzzle Board to build a picture and see it animate. Or go wild with the crazy circle, surprise square, kaleido-triangle & radical rectangle. With simple controls you’ll figure out as you go, Colorforms® is good wholesome fun for everyone. Just pick it up, start playing and join the revolution!

I tried out the  Puzzle boards and play sets with her. Tiger girl, my 22mth old,  had some difficulty placing the shapes into the correct holders. I had to guide her most of the way. I guess it will take her some time for her to learn how to do the puzzles independently

I found the theme play sets really interesting and fun to play. Tiger girl enjoy pasting stickers all over the play set. Each time she finishes a creation we can save it to the gallery or go back and edit it.    The “Go Wild!!” option is a  a simple game here and there, and mix in some fun & silly sounds of different music. You can be as creative as you want creating your own masterpieces.

I found another use for the theme play sets. I could use it as a teaching point or story starter for teaching her elder brothers composition or practicing their oral skills leading up to the final examinations at the end of the year.

You can view the app in action in the video below.

You can give the Colorforms app a test drive with the FREE version they also offer in iTunes, or you can purchase the full Colorforms Revolution app for only $2.99 in the App Store!

The Singing Alphabet- An IPAD App Review

The Singing alphabet

The Singing Alphabet is the latest IPAD App which I had tested out  with the kids.  This App is unlike any other apps which we have come across.

The Ministry of Letters developed this app to engage children with the world of letters. Their letters are made to look like fun and friendly characters which the children would love playing it.

Each time a letter is pressed it would sing its phonetic sound. You can press more then one letter at a time and the tune sounds like a well coordinated chorus .

We explored making our own words by pressing the pen at the  bottom of the screen to show the letters that we have chosen.

My thoughts

My kids love how each alphabet starts rapping and sounding out phonetically when pressed.  I like the fact that you can put any two or more alphabets together to sound out the word. Both simple and complex words /vowel sounds can be addressed using this App.

There is also potential using this app for teaching blending of sounds as a follow up to an introduction to the 26 letters of the alphabet.

Some Areas of Improvement

The App took an extremely long time to load up. It took nearly 10 minutes before it could be fully functional. It would be great if the App could be booted up in a jiffy and be up and running.

It would be great if the alphabets also came in upper case letters and not just lower case so that the child would know how the word is emphasized when it is put together.

You can purchase the “The Singing Alphabet” app from the iTunes App Store for $0.99.
