Racial Harmony Day

From Dominique’s Desk(c) 2009

Tomorrow most school’s in Singapore will be celebrating Racial Harmony Day. This day is specially set aside to commemorate all the different races  living in harmony in Singapore.

As part of National Education the students are taught that Racial Harmony Day serves to remind us about the racial division and destruction cost by the racial riots which occurred in 1964.  The day is set aside to remind us of the importance of having  a harmonious nation and society which has be been built on a rich diversity of culture and heritage.

With many countries suffering due to racial clashes and terrorism one has much to rejoice for peace and stability within the nation state.

In the primary school my pupils are taught that they should learn to make friends with people of all races and religions. Racial and religious tolerance is essential for everyone to live in harmony.

How do you celebrate Racial Harmony in your country?
