My Internet Savvy Toddler

From Dominique’s Desk (c) 2009

Roy has caught a very potent  bug. The internet bug!! Here is  him being comfy on the king size bed that we had at Ritz Carlton during the National Day weekend. He had hijacked my laptop while I was working on some articles. While I was not looking he immediately took over the mouse and click onto the games that had been pre-installed in the PC.

If you are wondering he is playing a cooking game whereby he has to coordinate the different processes required in baking and decorating a cake before it can be ready for delivery.  He has always been interested in learning how to bake and cook since watching me bake cookies, cakes and other pastries in our kitchen.

Roy has learned how to work a mouse since he was  2yrs old.  I have been playing online stories, phonic games and other interactive educational games. Most kids nowadays are more incline to highly interactive and colourful programs.

Roy at 2.5yr old is a highly visual and auditory learner. Using the traditional board and chalk talk would not be very effective for him.  With the advances in multimedia and creation of many different child centred websites it has changed the way lessons can be conducted.

I find that he absorbs knowledge more rapidly now  and is even able to navigate independently online.  His favourite catchline now is ” mummy type for me www.thomasthetrain .com”
