Roy’s Latest Craze

Roy’s taste has changed this year. He used to be into Thomas the Train and Barney. However this year after being introduced to the cartoons from Cartoon Network he has been idolizing Ben 10. Ben 10 Alien Force is one of his favourite catch phrases. He is asking for a Ben 10 cake for his upcoming 4th birthday.  We got him a set of Ben 10 walkie-talkies for his birthday present. He loves the fact that Ben is able to change into an alien life form by pressing on the device which he has strapped onto his wrist.  Ben along with his side kids battle the aliens that attack earth. It’s the usual good guy vs bad boy type of cartoon. Roy isn’t too bothered with the storyline at this age. However he pay special attention to the different creatures that Ben is able to change into. It would be nice if we too could morph into something totally different once in a while.

My little boy has grown  up as he has expanded his choice of cartoon characters from Barney and Bob the Builder to  Angelina Ballerina, Tom & Jerry  and Garfield on Cartoon Network.

Both Ryan and Roy love watching Tom & Jerry cartoons.  I personally watched Tom and Jerry when I was much younger. Now watching it as an adult I do find that it is not as amusing as it used to be and certain scenes are really sordid with either Tom or Jerry torturing each other.  I have to make sure that the boys understand what they are watching on TV only happens in cartoons and not in real life.  It is not nice to constantly torture others.  I do try to explain to them that Jerry the mouse is standing up for his right and getting even with Tom. However ,I do not condone of all his actions as I feel that it would be better to talk out if there is a disagreement instead of resorting to dirty tricks.

I wonder what he will be moving onto next after he turns four next month.

What is your pre-schooler into nowadays?

Writer’s Workshop- Being Thankful this Thanksgiving

This week many people across the world are celebrating Thanksgiving. We on the other hand am treating it like any other normal day. It’s not a big event here in Asia. For this weeks writer’s workshop I’m attempting writing a poem about the things I am thankful for.

I am thankful

  • that everyone is in relatively good health ( albeit the odd cough and cold now and then).
  • that we have a roof over our head and food on the table and not worry about when we will be able to have the next meal.
  • that I have three lovely kids who light up my day and a loving husband who takes care of the family.
  • that I have enough energy to take care of the kids and household everyday without having to rely on hiring a maid.
  • that I have good friends to share  our joys and troubles with.
  • that I am able to take time off work to stay home and watch the kids grow up.
  • that I can spend time  doing  freelance writing, baking and cooking while being at home.
  • that I am out of the acid system in the workplace where one is scrutinized from top to toe in everything you do and later deem you not  proactive and productive enough.
  • that I can now travel during the OFF PEAK season and do not need to pay extra for my  air-tickets and accommodation.
  • that I’m on my way to my ideal weight with another 15kg to lose.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
