30 Things About Me: A BC Blogger Meme
This week the topic for BC Blogger Meme is 30 random thing about me by woman scribbles . Here is my list of 30 which you may be interested to know.
- You seldom see pictures of me on the blog as it is normally me behind the camera.
It’s not that I don’t want to take more pictures of myself or with the kids and R and the boys have a long way to go before I even let them touch my camera. (They have their own cameras though) - I play the piano and the violin and was in the string orchestra during my high school year.
Our school orchestra was very active and we played in school hosted musicals, concerts and even for official functions by different governmental bodies. I did briefly think about becoming a piano/violin teacher but gave up doing my Diploma in music when Monkey boy was born. - R was not my first boyfriend but the only one that I was determined to marry.
It wasn’t really love at first sight but something that I was certain about back then I when I was 17. We tied the knot when I was 22. - R and me are both second born.
Both he and me have an elder sister. We also don’t have any other siblings, No brothers. - R and my 1st name are almost identical.
It is only after getting together with him that my name constantly get spelled wrongly by our friends and relatives. My 1st name is RACHEL and not RACHEAL. The best thing is that our christian names were chosen by our parents and given to us when we were born so there is no way that we syndicated on this issue. - Tiger girl’s name was decided on 10 yrs ago before she was born.
When we started planning for a family we decided way ahead what we would name our sons and daughters. I have door plates made for both Monkey Boy and Tiger girl way before they were born. - My favourite subject for snapping photos of are my kids followed by flowers and scenery.
My next investment would be in a good 100m Macro lens and a better zoom lens. I can’t decide as yet whether to go for a 75-250mm or a mid range zoom lens. - I’m no good in art and crafts
This is a subject which I have very little interest it but will still do it if I have to. I’m more incline to music then the arts. However I don’t mind attending art jamming sessions or going for baking classes to learn new skills. - I speak 3 languages fluently
We speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese at home. However I have learned Japanese and French before and am trying my best to brush up on these two languages before teaching the basics to the kids. I also understand but seldom speak Hokkien, Teochew and Malay. - I love reading
I read an average of 4 to 5 books a month now. I’m lucky that most of the books I wish to read I get to review so I don’t have to purchase them myself. - Use to write fiction novels in my teenage years.
I used to have thick stacks of manuscripts of various plots of stories which I wanted to write about. However upon graduating from college with a business degree I have been doing more non- fiction writing then fiction. - Like to travel and visit places
I like going on vacations and visiting new places. If possible we try to take the kids overseas once a year. - Has a passion for fast cars.
Would like to drive a Ferrari or Porsche but only if they are automatic. I get too stressed up when I have to drive a manual stick shift. It is amazing that I did manage to pass driving a manual car the first time around when I took my driving test at 18 yrs old. I’m still aiming for my own GOLF GTI if I do have enough cash for it. - Has been in an all girl school for 10 yrs of my life.
I was in a catholic primary school and then a Methodist secondary school so my exposure to guys only started when I went to collage. - Am not really comfortable wearing heels.
The only heels that I will wear are platforms. I still remember that during my wedding I wore a pair of light blue platform sandals instead of the traditional white shoes and nobody was the wiser. - I have a good sense of direction
I seldom have to refer to maps and compasses for directions and have no difficulty finding location of places by following road signs. Needless to say who uses the GPS we have in the car. - I am born and have been living mostly in Singapore.
The only time I lived abroad was when I was in collage and stayed in Sydney and Melbourne in Australia. - R and I have different blood groups.
It is fascinating that the boys take after their dad’s blood group while the girl takes after mine. - Am more talkative online then offline.
I blame it on my profession which requires a lot of speaking in the nature of the job. I tend to be quiet outside work and rather be a listener then a speaker. - I don’t smoke nor drink.
I never took a liking to these two vices. However during festive occasions I may drink a bit of red wine or champagne if offered. - I love cute cuddly soft toys
I have many Hello Kitty and teddy bears at home. Yes they are mine and not the kids.
- I’m a tea person.
I rather take green tea or any other variety of tea then coffee any day. - I love milk
Fresh, chocolate or strawberry milk are the staples in our refrigerator. The only milk which I dislike drinking is Banana milk. - My favourite fruits are berries- strawberries/blueberries.
2 out of 3 of the kids love the same fruits as I do and we are the ones often raiding the fridge for them after dinner. - I seldom wear makeup.
The only time I was heavily made up was during my wedding or when we have our photos taken at a studio. On most days you will see me sans makeup. - I prefer diamonds and white gold over traditional yellow gold
I’m glad that I don’t have too many yellow gold pieces as they have all remained in cold storage since our wedding in 2001. - I prefer watching mystery stories then love story dramas.
C.S.I and Num3ers are among my favourite shows. However at the moment I’m watching a Korean Drama series which is showing on the telly. - Does know how to fix a light bulb and simple DIY around the house.
However it is best interest to leave all this to the guy of the house unless I have no choice. - Is an efficient multi-tasker.
Is able to get the daily routine done despite all the interruptions by the kids at home. - Loves Japanese Food
Udon and sushi are staples in our diet and the kids and I have them very often. Almost weekly.

I wonder if it’s not too late for me to learn how to play the violin and piano. You are so musically talented.
I’ve been struggling with Mandarin but I figured, I could learn that later when I have mastered the 2 local dialects I am learning now. I could identify with you on being more talkative online than in person 🙂 I guess that is why I took to writing…to express all those things floating in my head lol!
You are the 3rd Singaporean writer I have come across online 🙂

@Aileen,
It is never too late to learn a musical instrument. If you have siblings/kids who are currently learning it would be a good time to join them too.
I too find it easier to type then to speak 😛

LOL, Banana Milk makes me sick! I tried it not once but thrice and I still shudder when I think of it. There’s something totally unnatural with the taste. And, I have no doubt that you are great at multi-tasking! 🙂
