What should you do when faced with a 403 Forbidden?

Does this kind of error message send shock waves down your spine? A client of mind went into a frenzy when she saw this message on her site.  She panicked and shot me an e-mail asking for help.

It was the first time that I am dealing with such an error and it took me quite awhile to get the problem fixed.  Being of a non-technical background I had to google around for relevant details then attempt a trial and error fix it on the site.

I tried everything from removing all the files to reinstalling a new blog on the site. It still didn’t work till I checked out all the permission files . I realised that her public_html file permission was wrongly set to 705 instead of 755. Just by changing the numbers on that permission file removed the 403 error.

It was really a relieve for me when I finally solved that complex puzzle. It show with a little determination and self-learning one can achieve what you may assume impossible to do.

What I learned from this project?

  1. Make sure that your files are frequently backed up on server or your local hard disk.
  2. Do not try to alter codes or files on your server if you are not fluent with the programming knowledge as a single chance of a code may cripple your site.
  3. List down what changes you have implemented on your site so that it is easier for you to refer when you want to know what changes you have done which may have improved or hampered the productivity of your site.

Why I chose WP WebHost

Pomerode

Choosing a Hosting is like buying your very first home.  You need to really study what is on the market and see if there is any good bargains before putting down your dollar.

I believe in shopping around and not be to hasty to take up what seems to be a good offer. I had a few nasty experience with different Web Hosting companies and changes my hosting a few times before deciding on WPWebhost.

This  blog is Hosted with WP WebHost after being with Hostpapa and Lunarpages. I had dreadful experiences with them and had to uproot and move my websites twice. It was a dreadful experience as I had experienced lost data and had to re-do certain websites from scratch. Luckily I did remember to back up certain essential files so all wasn’t lost.

Why I recommend WP WebHost

( and yes that’s an affiliate link above)

WAHM Mompreneur- Scheduling in some Downtime

  * Description: Coffee cortado (An latte...
Image via Wikipedia

Work at Home Moms have very busy schedules and are often caught up in the daily grind that they sometimes get detached from society, friends and relatives.

Working from home one does get to interact with other on a daily basis but only through  the telephone , skype or other online chat tools. It can feel quite lonely at times not having no physical contact with other adults.

To de -stress it will do one great to unplug at time just to sit down to sip a cup of coffee with your friends/relatives.

Why you should unplug yourself once in a while.

  1. Increase the chance of  more prospective clients by being offline.

While being outside the house you get to mingle with other people. At a gathering with friends you can get introduce to other friends of them who may in turn become your potential client or business partner. It doesn’t hurt to build up a broader  network which you can tap on if ever the need arises.

  2. Take the time to build up relationshipsGiving the gift of time is the best way to build up relationships with other. I’m sure that you are able to get a better understanding of the other person through a face to face meeting rather then chatting with them virtually.  Getting out once in a while for coffee not only gives you a chance to meet with other people, you also get a chance to be updated about the latest happenings in your friend’s life and exchange stories and tips among each other. It can be a very mentally stimulating afternoon sipping coffee with close friends at a neighbouring  cafe.
  3. Learn to take things slow and enjoy the finer moments in life The pleasures of sinking my teeth into a rich cheesecake and sipping on an iced drink is definitely more pleasing and inviting then sitting at the computer and busy typing away while completing a client’s project.  Just being able to sit back and list to the soft music in the cafe can have a therapeutic effect on ones soul. It is definitely uplifting
  4. Breathing in  new inspiration and creativity

Sometimes being cooped up at home all the time can be draining on your inspiration and your level of creativity.  Being in a new environment can help one become rejuvenated and get your creative juices flowing.

Being away from your internet business can be good for you at times.

Kid Friendly Business Ideas for Budding Mompreneurs

When one becomes a mom your priorities may need to be re-looked at.  The focus is not so much on self but more on the needs and wants of your off springs.

Coping with both kids and business is never easy. Time that you have set aside for both your kids and business may overlap into each other and make it difficult for you to decide which issue is of more important to you at that particular moment in time.

Child or client? Client or Child? Which one should come first? It would definitely leave me in a dilemma and it may make me regretting my selection if the result afterward is less then ideal.

Here are some business ideas which are mom friendly.

  1. Setting up a Online Store. There are many different products which you can sell online. You can set up a Etsy shop to showcase your handmade items like ring pillows and graphic designs. Many moms are passionate  in handicraft  and by displaying and selling their unique  wares it is a good way of them to earn some income. If handicraft is not your cup of tea you could always sell items through drop shipping kids apparel or related items.
  2. Setting up a promotion blogBlogs are set up for many different purposes nowadays.  One common reason is to gain exposure and build up awareness of oneself in the blogsphere. There are many different platforms which you can build your blog from. These range from FREE to paid versions depending on what basic/advance features you require.I personally use my parenting blog as a platform to build up my authority and expert status in my chosen niche of parenting.  Simultaneously I have attempted to market my virtual real estate through offering sponsered Ad spaces on the blog among the ways I try to generate revenue from my writings.
  3. Taking part in surveys & online promotions.Certain sites like  Freebie Trading pay you for taking part in their promotions online. It is really useful and I personally know people who have earned thousands of dollars from doing such trading with working only a few hours each day. [ However this path is not suitable for me as most of the sites are catering for a USA based audience.]
  4. Providing  Home Based ServicesIf you have young kids it can be quite difficult to find babysitters or nannies as they are quite costly. Providing services from home like starting a playgroup or nanny service would mean that you could look after your children while at the same time earn and income.Other kinds of  Services would include offering freelance writing and being a virtual assistant for others.
  5. Setting up a Coaching SiteBeing a teacher by profession this came about quite naturally for me. Having a  coaching site I am able to offer to my clients a learning package on a chosen topic which includes tutorials, videos, audios and even e-books.  Clients pay for the exclusive information which I have to offer and the opportunity to interact  one to one with me and with other members of the selected community.

After going through this list I hope that you have a better understanding of which business is more suitable for you and your family.
