10 Things we did this Chinese New Year

Yesterday we celebrated the first day of the Year of The Dragon. The kids were dressed up in their  traditional Chinese costumes before we left the house.

Here is a list of  ten thing we  did on the 1st day of Chinese New Year

  1. Visit church and attend the Chinese New Year Mass
  2. Eat the blessed oranges that we received from church.
  3. Pay respects to the elders by wishing them happy Chinese New Year, best of health and other auspicious sayings.
  4. Exchange oranges with  relatives we visited.
  5. Distribute red packets to the children, nephews and nieces. The kids were extremely happy as they were the recipients of the red packets.
  6. Savor the various CNY tidbits like almond cookies, roasted meats and tarts.
  7. Take part in the annual “Lao Yu Sheng” for good luck.
  8. Play cards with the kids/cousins.
  9. Catch up with relatives that we haven’t seen in a long time.
  10. Watch the countdown and CNY fireworks  on TV .

It has always been my interest to get my kids interested in reading.  It’s  important to me that they be introduced to a variety of reading material to stimulate their interest in printed media from young.   Showing an interest in reading will only aid them in their pursue of knowledge and make it easier on them in their schooling years.  Tiger girl has always been interested to follow what her brothers do. I feel that she learns a lot through immitation and observation of her brothers daily. She picks up really fast. Nowadays when we go to the restaurant she too wants to choose her own meal from the menu.  I guess before long it would be she ordering the dishes for our meal instead of her brothers.
