A few weeks ago I was fortunate to be selected to review this Ipad App- We Are The Children by Three Wishes Interactive. The kids and I recently got an Ipad2 for Christmas and were happy to get the chance to review this digital storybook app of how kids in other countries celebrated Christmas.
Targeted at kids aged 5-13 We Are The Children brings together 7 kids from America, China, Finland, France, Japan, South Africa and South Korea who tell you how they celebrate Christmas day.

Through each page of the storybook the kids and I were brought to the 7 different countries and learned about their various traditions and cultural practices which occur during Christmas.
Besides listening to the story there is also a fun Christmas tree-making game, carols to sing along and you can record your own Christmas song.
My boys were fascinated by the interactive elements on the page and love the colour graphic display. They loved listening to the story and trying out the Christmas tree decoration game.
My thoughts
Even though the story was informative and well thought of there are some aspects of this app which could do with better planning.
- The font size of the texts are rather small and hard to read and follow. Also the words do not light up when it was read making it hard for younger readers to follow the story.
- The pages of the storybook do not auto turn at the end of the page and you will have to manually flip the page. It would be great if the book had an auto flip for the page as it would make it easier to listen to the story without having to pause and flip the page each time.
- I like the fact that there are Christmas songs that came along with the story. However the selection of Christmas carol was limited to one song and the recording of the boys singing the Christmas carol didn’t work. We tried twice to playback the songs that they sung and recorded but it drew a blank when the playback failed.
- The boys enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree with the various decorations available and switching on the lights/switch to see a fully lit up tree. It would be great if they could decorate the bottom of the Christmas tree with presents and not just the tree itself.
If you are interest to introduce this app to your kids you can purchase it from the Apple Itune App Store
